Watched the fireworks, toasted the New Year and now watching Suggs and Madness. (We watch the UK New Year because my wife never makes it to midnight here.)
Regarding my birthday; I had to go to the hardware store today. Over the holiday the latch on the back door broke and the kitchen faucet started a slow drip.
When at a store I have a good ability to total my purchases in my head. My wife is amazed that we can get a cart of groceries and I will be within a dollar of the final total even factoring taxable and non taxable items and coupons and discounts.
At the hardware store check-out I was talking with the woman on the cash and another woman who works there. I was not really paying attention to the sale. I handed over some cash and got my change and left.
As soon as I was outside I thought 'wait, I should have received about $3.80 but she gave me $7.80'
I looked at the receipt. I got the seniors discount.
I can take it as a sign that the year 2019 is going to give me extra good things or I can look at it that I am going rapidly downhill toward decay and death.
Heh! I've been getting the senior discount without them asking at times.... it's disconcerting, but I've decided that the bit extra in the monetary "rebate" is good compensation for the assumption.
I'm not going near the looking old and tired assumption. Nope! Not at all!
Had a quiet but nice NYE camping at South Stradbroke Island, had some fun letting off a big bag of illicit fireworks and generally relaxing and having fun. Not so much fun was falling off a surfboard and smashing my Apple Watch in the process, but I guess I should have known better at my advanced age (I'm eligible for a seniors discount card, but refuse to get one because they are for old people).
In other news, you may remember me pouring my heart out a few months ago about the sad state of my love life. How did all that mess turn out? Well, if it wasn't for Ms J and I having set a guest limit of 50, I would love to invite you all to our wedding in September :-)
