Things are going well for my son, or so we thought... [More:] After working as a pharmacy tech for several years, he decided to move on. It turns out it was a good move because the shit hit the fan at the pharmacy and most of the experienced people are being fired so they can bring in cheaper help.

He joined his friend who sells financial stuff- insurance, investments and stuff like that. He was doing it for several months and said things were going great as far as we knew.

Then this afternoon, he came over as he often does on Sundays, left his dog to go grocery shopping and when he got home, he revealed that when he left it was with the intention to commit suicide. It turns out the sales job didn't pan out and he hasn't worked in a couple of months.

Thankfully, he didn't go through with it.

He's moving back in with us, and we're going to get him some help and some breathing space to reset.

Your positive thoughts, vibes and prayers are appreciated.

HUGS! Y'all must feel blindsided and lucky at the same time. Glad he's moving in to have space and support to get things sorted out.

Damn that's scary. Hugs to you Doohickie. I'm happy that he was able to talk about it and has family support.

So he was evaluated at a mental/rehab place this evening. They recommended in-patient care, but he refused and will be doing outpatient. He's talking about it pretty freely now. He was really going to go through with it until he started thinking about his dog and us finding out and he couldn't go through with it. The trigger (his job not working out and financial problems) don't seem as scary to him now; he feels like he can get through it with our help. I wish he had health insurance though... this is going to eat into our savings pretty good. Totally worth every penny though.

Ah damn, I am so sorry. Wishing you, him and the rest of your family all the very best. He has good parents, so that's a huge positive many people in his situation don't have.

Thanks all.

We took him in for an evaluation Monday at a mental health center. They naturally recommended in-patient care (a day after he considered suicide), but he refused it. Because they recommended that, their policy wouldn't allow them to give him out-patient care. He waited a couple days and I took him back this afternoon. This time they agreed to outpatient care, but they said it will take a few days to get a placement, possibly a week.

We told him that until he gets some treatment, we don't want him alone, and he agrees that's a good tack. He's back to acting like himself. He's cooperative. Luckily my other son didn't land a teaching gig, so he's home, and my workplace is letting me work from home for now.

My son recognizes that when things start to go wrong, they spiral downward until he feels hopeless, and that he needs coping mechanisms to stop that cycle. He's hoping to learn some during his treatment.

I don't post about it, but I have an adult son who has various difficulties, and the summer has been a rollercoaster. Hugs to all of you.

I had to post about it here. I had to talk to someone about it; this is all so new an overwhelming, and this is the most anonymous yet caring place I know of on the internet.

He had his first day of outpatient treatment today. He said it was a lot of group therapy and a bit of one-on-one. They prescribed an anti-depressant. As a former pharmacy tech, he told them which ones were the most affordable (since he doesn't have insurance) and they prescribed the one from his list that would be best for him.

It sounds like he's being proactive in his approach to getting the most out of treatment. That's encouraging. Hopefully after this big bump he'll be on a better trajectory.

Hugs to your family and to theora55's also.

I'm glad he's not resistant to help and I'm sure that once the meds kick in he'll find a measure of equilibrium that'll enable him to look more objectively at the underlying issues that have made him so unhappy.
