This person from my high school on facebook tends to evoke a sentiment otherwise almost alien to me: ENVY. It's not that I'm a stranger to insecurity or maybe even jealously, but envy is a special case of such sentiments, it's almost a grievance.[More:]

Unwarranted, of course, because what said person is out doing in their life has literally nothing to do with me. I think it's because I can easily transpose myself into their shoes, and be like, I could be doing *that*, if I had pulled off the last X years differently. That's what makes Envy personal, compared to generic insecurity, I suppose: these sense that, "you're in my place!11"

I don't do Facebook for many reasons, but one of the biggest is that everyone lies there. You are looking at a touched up version of this person's life, not reality. This is one of the reasons studies say that Facebook makes people unhappy. Solution: stop checking that person's page.

Please, I am way too cool to be loading and looking at people's pages. It ends up in my newsfeed (lol)

But your point is very true. It's true of me as well, as a social media user, I don't write all the nonsense going on in my life (lol) just talk more about cultural or newsy stuff or when talking about my personal life I talk about things that are kinda interesting or at least can be expressed in an interesting way. I think it's also a part of adulthood in a way, to avoiding airing out private issues or drama in public so it happens by default as well.
